Stratasys F170

The Stratasys F170 is the most used printer at the IDC, located in the Semi-Clean Room. It is part of the F123 series printers created by Stratasys for rapid prototyping.

No PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required to handling the F170 in normal operation. Gloves are recommended during maintenance since the apparatus of the printer may be 70°C or hotter during non-PLA modes.

In order to print on the F170, tray files must be generated using GrabCAD Print.

Using GrabCAD Print

GrabCAD print is a slicing software for generating files that the Stratasys F170 printer can process.

Making your tray & placing models

On the computer, open GrabCAD Print Create a new tray. Trays can hold multiple files and models. After a new tray is made, upload file(s) by clicking on to the area which says “Add models”. The software supports Inventor’s IAM, IPT, Solidwork’s SLDASM, SLDPRT, IGES 5.1-5.3, and STP/STEP(AP 203 E1/E2, AP 214, AP 242) files. More file types are listed here: https://help.grabcad.com/article/214-list-of-supported-file-formats?locale=en The project contains a list of models, including both parts and assemblies. The left checkbox shows if the part will exist on the tray. The right check box is if you would like to print a job already assembled.
